Description
Attention should be paid to the upcoming IEC62109-3 standard, which will cover electronics integrated to the solar PV inverter of a cokplete PV-based energy generator. This does not cover so-called micro-inverters but will cover any electronics that is in intimate contact with the module - inverters, DC-DC, optimizers, etc. We anticipate that this will negate the ability to field-install electronics directly onto modules, due to safety and certification concerns.
While a J-Box replacement is a possible instantiation of the concept, this upcoming standard contemplates that the design can vary from a separate electronic element mounted to a module frame (as is typically done now with the AC inverters on the market) to discrete electronic components designed as part of the solar PV inverter semiconductor framework. In all cases, though, the electronics is a permanemt and non-separable part of the entire PV inverter product.
