This type of bearings is a separated one. It can carry single directional or double directional inter exchangeable axial loads according to its different structures. Single directional thrust ball bearings can only carry one directional axial loads, being able to limit the axial displacement of shaft and casings in one direction. Double direction thrust ball bearings can be used to carry axial loads in both directions; else can limit the axial displacement in both directions too. The thrust ball bearings can not carry radial loads and are not able to restrict the radial displacement of shaft or housings. The type of bearings can be mounted separately. It is merely suitable for low speed rotation.

While the thrust ball bearings are in operation, the sliding at the ball-to-raceway contact caused by centrifugal force may affect the normal operation of bearings. In order to prevent the occurrence of the case, the minimum axial loads must be applied to the thrust ball bearings during operation.
